How to use this itinerary

This 3-day Florence itinerary is designed for a first visit with geographically coherent days. It assumes full sightseeing days; remove a block if arrival or departure takes half a day. The sequence is editorial advice, not an operator schedule. Place your principal booking first and protect time for meals and rest. Several options below are alternatives, not a requirement to complete everything.

Day 1: orient yourself around the Duomo

Start around the Duomo and choose which parts of the complex you want to visit. Climbs such as the dome or bell tower are not equivalent to a level walk; check physical requirements and reservations. Continue towards Piazza della Signoria and pause for lunch. A short Arno walk may be enough in the evening. Leave major galleries for later rather than adding every monument to your first day.

Day 2: Uffizi or Accademia

The Uffizi and Accademia offer different collection experiences. Decide what you want to see, then build the day around suitable ticket availability. Neither requires visiting the other immediately afterwards. Consider lunch and neighbourhood time around Santa Croce following your main museum. Shorten the walk if adding another interior. A flexible schedule lets you stay with a room that interests you instead of leaving after one famous photograph.

Day 3: Oltrarno and a viewpoint choice

Cross towards Oltrarno using Ponte Vecchio or another suitable route and spend time around Santo Spirito. If Pitti or Boboli is a priority, make it the main visit and reduce other walking. Consider the climb and weather before adding Piazzale Michelangelo; it is not an effortless final stop for everyone. Establish your return for a sunset outing. Pisa or Siena should replace this city day with a separately planned excursion.

Your base and spending balance

Compare station convenience around Santa Maria Novella, central walkability and evenings in Oltrarno. The exact street, lift and luggage approach matter. Do not assume a car is useful without researching parking and access restrictions. After choosing museum tickets, leave money for meals and breaks. A confirmed interior can replace gardens in rain, but walk-in entry is not guaranteed. For two days, remove the final day’s substantial interiors.

Official source and final checks

Use the official Visit Tuscany guide for destination research. Confirm fares, schedules, accessibility and temporary closures directly with the relevant institution or operator before travel. This article does not guarantee prices or uninterrupted access. Save your hotel address, main booking and return connection offline, and agree on a meeting point with companions. Shorten the route for your own needs, especially with children or mobility requirements.
