Prague in 3 Days: Old Town, Castle and Vinohrady

Explore Prague on both sides of the river, with a proper castle block and a slower neighbourhood day.

How to use this itinerary

This 3-day Prague itinerary is designed for a first visit with geographically coherent days. It assumes full sightseeing days; remove a block if arrival or departure takes half a day. The sequence is editorial advice, not an operator schedule. Place your principal booking first and protect time for meals and rest. Several options below are alternatives, not a requirement to complete everything.

Day 1: Old Town and the river

Begin around Old Town Square, then explore streets behind the busiest routes. Allow a stop for the Astronomical Clock without spending the whole morning waiting in a crowd. For interiors in Josefov, check visiting days and ticket scope separately. Take a riverside break in the afternoon and approach Charles Bridge without rushing. You will continue across the river the next day, so there is no need to enter every building now.

Day 2: the castle and Malá Strana

Choose your approach to the castle area first: an uphill walk or a suitable transport connection depending on your energy. Courtyards and ticketed interiors need different amounts of time. Protect one substantial visit block, then descend towards Malá Strana for lunch. A shorter walk around Kampa can follow. A distant museum reservation later that day would interrupt a route that otherwise works naturally with the terrain.

Day 3: Vinohrady or Letná

Use the final day to experience everyday neighbourhood life rather than another landmark checklist. Choose Vinohrady for streets, coffee and lunch, or Letná for a more outdoor-focused block. Neither requires adding the other. Adjust park time to the weather. If leaving Prague that day, favour a neighbourhood with an easy return to your luggage instead of ending the trip with a complicated cross-city connection.

Choosing a base and transport

Old-town accommodation can simplify evening walks, while a well-connected outer neighbourhood offers a different base. Compare the exact address with your main stops instead of trusting the word central. Read current ticket conditions for duration, zones and validation, and check the airport journey separately. Consider cobbles and station-exit steps when arriving with luggage. A slightly less picturesque approach may be far more comfortable at the end of a travel day.

Budget, weather and a common mistake

Choose major admissions, such as castle interiors or Josefov visits, before setting aside food and local transport money. Compare menus on nearby streets rather than limiting dinner to the principal square. In rain, shorten exposed walking and use a verified indoor alternative. Adding another city to a three-day stay is optional, not an improvement by definition; returning to a neighbourhood you enjoyed may offer a more satisfying final afternoon.

Shorten the route for your own needs, especially with children or mobility requirements.
